Manage your diabetes for life

Diabetes is a chronic health disease that affects how your body converts food into energy, according to the CDC. The majority of the food you consume is converted to sugar (also known as glucose) and absorbed into your circulation. When your blood sugar levels rise, your pancreas is prompted to release insulin. Insulin serves as a key, allowing blood sugar to enter your body’s cells and be used as energy. In diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not utilise the insulin it produces properly. Too much blood sugar remains in your bloodstream when there isn’t enough insulin or when cells stop responding to insulin.
There are three main types of diabetes – type 1, type 2 and gestational. Type 1 diabetes can develop at any age, although it is more common in children and teenagers. When you have type 1 diabetes, your body generates very little or no insulin, therefore you must take insulin injections on a regular basis to keep your blood glucose levels under control. Type 2 diabetes is more common in adults, accounting for roughly 90% of all diabetes cases. With type 2 diabetes, your body does not properly use the insulin it generates. Gestational diabetes (GDM) is a type of diabetes that causes elevated blood glucose that develops during pregnancy and typically goes away after the baby is born. It can occur at any time of pregnancy, although it is most frequent during the second or third trimester. Living with diabetes may be difficult. When it comes to managing your diabetes, you are an important member of your health care team. Whether you were just diagnosed with diabetes or have had the condition for years, you can still manage your health. Making lifestyle adjustments is one of the most significant ways people with diabetes may control their condition. Here are some important tips for ultimate diabetes management:
